September 9, 2026 - The Municipal Innovation and Collaboration in Asset Management Planning program (MICAMP) is an innovative regional shared-service initiative helping Manitoba municipalities improve how they manage infrastructure, plan for growth, and deliver sustainable services to residents. Led through the Town of Stonewall and supporting partner municipalities including the RM of Rosser, Town of Teulon, and RM of Macdonald, MICAMP was created to address the challenge many smaller municipalities face in building asset management capacity with limited resources. This allows communities to make more informed, data-driven investments that improve service reliability, strengthen financial sustainability, and maximize taxpayer value. What makes MICAMP innovative is its collaborative model, which builds lasting internal capacity across multiple municipalities rather than relying on isolated or consultant-driven approaches. By improving regional cooperation MICAMP is creating stronger, more resilient communities and delivering long-term benefits for residents across the region.  

September 9, 2026 - MedeChan has developed the WisdomWellness Platform, which combines proprietary software with hardware-based Virtual Care Stations (kiosks) to bring healthcare directly into remote and IT-deficient Indigenous communities. This is a completely self funded business created to address the issues in the community. In Phase 1, the platform development is servicing communities in Northwestern Ontario. There are currently more than 200 mental health professionals in the backend who are delivering counseling.  For 2026, MedeChan will focus on deploying 4 more Virtual Care Stations in Manitoba (and potentially 1 more in Ontario), while adding more services.  In 2027 the focus will be on delivering tens of thousands of health and wellness appointments directly in-community, which will drastically reduce wait times and save hundreds of thousands of dollars in healthcare travel costs. 

June 29, 2026 - North Forge qualifies for the Innovate Challenge Award because it delivers measurable, community‑wide benefits through inclusive innovation, economic growth, and direct support for entrepreneurs across Manitoba. Their impact is not theoretical—it is demonstrated through sustained results that strengthen the social and economic fabric of the Prairies.  North Forge has supported over 655 companies since 2020, helping create 1,313 jobs, affected revenue growth of $42.8 million, and helped founders to raise $45.5 million in capital. These outcomes show a clear and ongoing commitment to building a stronger, more resilient community.  Their model is intentionally inclusive. Nearly half of all supported businesses are led by underrepresented groups, including visible minorities, women, and Indigenous founders. Programs such as WiLab™ and WeTech Loans reduce barriers and expand opportunities for people who have historically faced obstacles in entrepreneurship. This focus on equity directly aligns with the award’s “betterment of the community” criteria.  North Forge also strengthens community capacity by providing world‑class resources—such as one of North America’s largest publicly accessible fabrication labs—giving innovators access to advanced manufacturing tools that would otherwise be out of reach.  Their support extends beyond local borders, attracting international founders through the Start‑up Visa Program and bringing new talent, investment, and ideas into Manitoba.  North Forge’s inclusive programming, economic impact, global reach, and community‑driven mission make it a standout candidate for the Innovate Challenge Award—an organization whose work meaningfully improves the lives, opportunities, and future of the community.  

April 14, 2026 - Kalen Taylor is being recognized by the Innovate Council Canada as the inaugural recipient of the Winnipeg Regional Innovate Challenge award for transforming how the city approaches affordable housing, inclusive employment, and social enterprise.  

As Executive Director of Purpose Construction, Kalen lead a trades‑training social enterprise that revitalizes vacant properties into affordable homes while creating meaningful jobs for historically excluded groups.  Beyond this, their leadership has helped advance Winnipeg’s social innovation ecosystem through pioneering community‑owned development and social impact investment. Kalen’s vision proves that inclusive economic growth and professional excellence can, and must, go hand in hand.
