North Forge has supported over 655 companies since 2020, helping create 1,313 jobs, affected revenue growth of $42.8 million, and helped founders to raise $45.5 million in capital. These outcomes show a clear and ongoing commitment to building a stronger, more resilient community.
 

Their model is intentionally inclusive. Nearly half of all supported businesses are led by underrepresented groups, including visible minorities, women, and Indigenous founders. Programs such as WiLab™ and WeTech Loans reduce barriers and expand opportunities for people who have historically faced obstacles in entrepreneurship. This focus on equity directly aligns with the award’s “betterment of the community” criteria. 

North Forge also strengthens community capacity by providing world‑class resources—such as one of North America’s largest publicly accessible fabrication labs—giving innovators access to advanced manufacturing tools that would otherwise be out of reach.
 

Their support extends beyond local borders, attracting international founders through the Start‑up Visa Program and bringing new talent, investment, and ideas into Manitoba.

  Kalen Taylor is being recognized by the Innovate Council Canada as the inaugural recipient of the Winnipeg Regional Innovate Challenge award for transforming how the city approaches affordable housing, inclusive employment, and social enterprise. 

As Executive Director of Purpose Construction, Kalen lead a trades‑training social enterprise that revitalizes vacant properties into affordable homes while creating meaningful jobs for historically excluded groups. 

Beyond this, their leadership has helped advance Winnipeg’s social innovation ecosystem through pioneering community‑owned development and social impact investment. Kalen’s vision proves that inclusive economic growth and professional excellence can, and must, go hand in hand.
